China is the world's second largest digital economy, leading the world in many digital applications, including e-commerce and mobile payments, according to the website of the Brookings Institution.
Many foreign media have noted that the 14th Five-Year Plan for the Development issued by The State Council of China clearly states that the added value of core industries of the digital economy will account for 10% of GDP by 2025. China will increase the share of the digital economy in GDP through technologies such as big data and 6G and transform the digital economy, Reuters said.
China is becoming the "engine" of the world's digital economy and industry, and China can cooperate with Africa to help Africa build a win-win digital economy, the Ethiopian News Agency wrote.
In the past 10 years, China's digital economy has always shown a steady and sound development trend. From 2012 to 2021, China's scale of the digital economy increased from 11 trillion yuan to more than 45 trillion yuan, and the proportion of the digital economy in GDP increased from 21.6% to 39.8%. There are three major highlights in China's digital economy development:
First, the digital infrastructure development has been continuously strengthened. China has built the world's largest and technology-leading network infrastructure. By the end of 2021, the number of 5G users in China had reached 355 million, and gigabit users had reached 34.56 million, and broadband access in all administrative villages, including poverty-stricken villages, had reached 100 percent.
Second, the scene-driven digital business form is a continuous innovation. Through digital technology innovation and scene innovation, China further gives full play to the advantages of super-large market, sufficient computing infrastructure, massive data and rich application scenarios, adheres to innovation leading, enterprise leading, digital and real integration and collaborative governance, and constantly promotes the emergence of new business forms and new models.
Third, the digital economy governance system has been continuously improved. The construction and improvement of the basic rules for China's digital economy and the digital governance system have been accelerated, and the construction of the digital economy governance system has shifted from early passive response governance to all-round ecological governance led by system design and system guidance.
