Nobel Prize for Economic Science winner gives academic report for BIT teachers and students


On 16 June 2021, Nobel Prize for Economic Science winner William D.Nordhaus gave online academic report "Economic Approaches to Climate Change Policy" for teachers and students at the forum of“BIT100 Lecture Hall”.  More than 300 teachers and students attended the report in the two campuses of Zhongguancun and Liangxiang. Participants from the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Natural Science Foundation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, International Exchange and Cooperation Center and other departments as well as adjunct professor Yang Zili attended the report. The report was presided over by Professor Wei Yiming, vice president of Beijing Institute of Technology.

 

Wei Yiming welcomed Professor Nordhouse warmly. He briefly introduced Nordhouse's achievements and the basic information of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research at BIT.

Professor Nordhouse in the report introduced the global carbon emissions, pointed out that the global emission reduction effect is not significant, and proposed using higher and continuous growth of global unified carbon price to promote emission reduction, and solutions for the problem of "hitchhiking". At the end of the report, he answered the questions raised by teachers and students. Audiences have been deeply impressed by Professor Nordhouse’rigorous academic attitude and master style.
