On October 16th, 2022, The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) annual conference announced the results of the 2022 Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (MSOM) Data-Driven Research Challenge. The paper submitted by Chenxi Li and his collaborators is Distributionally Robust Multilocation Newsvendor at Scale: A Scenario-Based Linear Programming Approach. The paper built an optimized model for commodity sellers facing up to hundreds of distribution centers in a large logistics network to address the problem of optimal distribution of goods inventory. Based on the real logistics data provided by Gooday Logistics Company, a subsidiary of Haier Group, the results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method in controlling the logistics cost.
